The American Embassy School founded in 1952 boasts of the vision of Mr. Joseph Allen Stein by using existing landform and rocky outcrops guiding the main design of the building. The unique juxtaposition of inside and outside spaces carved out of the context highlight the design sensibility.
Originally constructed by Stein Doshi & Bhalla, the present day renovation of major sections including the Middle School, Stein Building & Theatre building was carried out by SDBConsultants Pvt. Ltd., in collaboration with Perkins Eastman, NY .
The Adaptive Reuse proposal looked at maintaining the design identity of the building and adding the required functional additions to bring it into the 21 century.
Another phase of the renovation & redesign of the school was the student cafeteria. Perkins Eastman shared their vision for the space and SDB Consultants helped transform that vision to reality. They shared conceptual views, presentations & layouts while the firm in Delhi, being the local architects worked on modification of the drawings sent to better fit them to the India context in terms of materials, details, construction technology & overlooked the phases of the construction itself.
